Thirty second of exposure got me this silky water flowing and a bright sky at night.

Yep, in near pitch black! Make sure you give it a go. Never be put off by the dark!

You have now simply forced me to get a tripod tomorrow. =P
Thirty seconds? Jeez.

Anyway, I love the shot. The colours are superb, although it would be better if the water was moving a bit faster so the silk effect was even more pronounced. Also, I think the exposure length was just a little too extreme.

Still, it's great. Nice job. ;)

How was the exposure extreme? If you want a more silky flow then surely a longer shutter is required (if the water is remaining the same speed). If you want to see an even more extreme exposure see here for 2mins+! [link]

I have the Velbon CX540 tripod. It's pretty good for 30GBP, but I'd get a slightly taller one next time. Make sure you get an infra-red filter for some more tripod fun, and also, tripod=HDR opportunities!

Oh sorry, I wasn't directing the extreme exposure comment at the water effect, more towards the effect it has on the detail of the silhouetted parts. ;)

Oh wow this is a neat shot!
I love it and I especially love the color! Midnight blue is my favorite!
